Rohit Sharma Leads Indian Team to Colombo for ODIs
Rohit Sharma, fresh from the United States, has landed in Colombo to lead the Indian cricket team in an upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Joining him are key players like Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav, and newcomer Harshit Rana, all of whom checked into the ITC Ratnadipa hotel on Sunday night.
Nayar to Oversee Net Sessions
According to team insiders, the squad is set to have a practice session at the stadium on Monday, with assistant coach Abhishek Nayar overseeing the preparations. Nayar arrived in Colombo after the second T20I, which took place on Sunday evening. The rest of the team, currently engaged in the final T20I match in Pallekele, will join them after the game on July 30.
ODI Series Details and Squad Composition
The ODI series is scheduled to begin on August 2 at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, with the final match on August 7. The Indian team has already secured the T20 series, leading 2-0, adding momentum to their ODI campaign.
Coaching Staff Developments
In a significant move, Morne Morkel is set to join the coaching staff as a bowling coach, beginning with the series against Bangladesh in September. This change comes as head coach Gautam Gambhir and his team assess the coaching lineup during the Sri Lanka tour, aiming to establish a comprehensive coaching team for future tours.
Currently, Sairaj Bahutule serves as the interim bowling coach, specializing in spin. However, with Morkel's expertise in fast bowling, the need for a dedicated spin bowling coach may arise. If Bahutule continues, the coaching team will consist of six members, including Gambhir, which some believe might be excessive.
ODI Squad Roster
The ODI squad includes: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Riyan Parag, Axar Patel, Khaleel Ahmed, and Harshit Rana.
This revamped lineup and the strategic addition to the coaching staff are expected to bolster the team's performance, making the upcoming series an exciting prospect for fans and followers.
