Ishan Kishan returned to competitive cricket after a three-month absence. Playing for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) team in the DY Patil T20 Cup 2024, he scored just 19 runs against Route Mobile Limited in Navi Mumbai. He donned the wicketkeeper's gloves as his team opted to field first.
Chasing a target of 193 runs, the left-hander opened the innings for RBI but managed just 19 runs off 12 balls, laced with 2 fours and a six, before being dismissed by Maxwell Swaminathan.
Shahbaz Nadeem, Amit Mishra, Ankit Rajpoot, Dhruv Shorey and Riyan Parag also play for the RBI. He played his first match in three months, his last outing being a T20I against Australia in November 2023. He went to South Africa with the Indian team but left the tour midway due to mental fatigue.
He skipped the Ranji Trophy season to prepare for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). He was seen training with Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya in Baroda. India's head coach Rahul Dravid wanted him to play domestic matches, but he refused to listen to his instructions. With the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled for June, Kishan will have to perform exceptionally well to stand a chance of representing the Men in Blue.
