Who received the CEAT Award?

Rahul Dravid, the former head coach of the Indian men's cricket team, received a rousing reception as he was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the CEAT Cricket Awards. Dravid, who stepped down from his coaching role after guiding India to the T20 World Cup victory against South Africa on June 29, was recognised for his immense contributions to the sport.

Dravid’s journey came full circle at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown when he led India to their first ICC trophy in 11 years, their first world title in 13 years, and their first T20 World Cup win in 17 years. The victory was particularly significant, as it was in the West Indies where Dravid, as captain, experienced a painful early exit in the 2007 ODI World Cup. Dravid, who was not part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad, redeemed himself with this remarkable achievement.

Dravid’s illustrious playing career spanned nearly 18 years, during which he represented India in 164 Tests, 244 ODIs, and one T20I. He amassed 13,288 runs in Tests—ranking fourth in the all-time list—with 36 centuries and 63 fifties, and 10,889 runs in ODIs, the 10th highest tally in world cricket, including 12 centuries and 83 fifties.

Beyond his playing career, Dravid has made significant contributions to Indian cricket as a mentor for IPL franchises Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils, as head coach of India’s Under-19 and A teams (leading the U-19s to a World Cup win in 2018), and as Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before becoming head coach of the Indian men's team.

Virat Kohli was also celebrated at the CEAT awards, receiving the Best ODI Batter of the Year award. In 2023, Kohli scored 1,377 runs with six centuries and eight fifties, with his standout performance coming in the ODI World Cup, where he was the tournament's top scorer with 765 runs in 11 matches at an average of 95.62, equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most ODI centuries.

India captain Rohit Sharma was honoured with the Men’s International Cricketer of the Year award for his stellar performance across formats, accumulating 1,800 runs in 2023, including 1,255 runs in ODIs at an average of 52.59. His World Cup tally of 597 runs was the second-highest in the tournament.

Mohammed Shami won the Best ODI Bowler of the Year award, with his standout World Cup performance yielding 24 wickets in seven matches, including two five-wicket hauls at a strike rate of 12.20.
