After losing the first three games, Mumbai Indians finally won their first match in IPL 2024 by defeating Delhi Capitals by 29 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan provided Mumbai with a solid start of 80 runs in seven overs. Although the Capitals made a comeback in the middle overs, Tim David (45* off 21) and Romario Shepherd (39* off 10) powered Mumbai to score 96 runs in the last five overs - Shepherd smashed Anrich Nortje for 32 runs in the 20th over - and set a daunting target of 234 for 5.
Prithvi Shaw scored 66 runs off 40 balls, keeping Capitals in the contest. After his dismissal, Tristan Stubbs took over and scored an unbeaten 71 runs off 25 balls. However, the Nortje over proved to be the difference in the end as the Capitals fell short by 29 runs.
