Oval Invincibles Got Their Second Title

The Oval Invincibles clinched their second consecutive title in *The Hundred* Men's Competition 2024, defeating the Southern Brave by 17 runs in the final at Lord's on August 18. The win reinforced their dominance in the tournament, having previously secured the title last year against the Manchester Originals.

Batting first after Southern Brave won the toss and opted to bowl, the Invincibles started solidly, thanks to an opening stand of 44 runs in 31 balls by Will Jacks and Dawid Malan. Despite the promising start, the Invincibles found themselves in a tricky situation at 47-2. However, a crucial partnership between Sam Curran and Jordan Cox (46 runs off 30 balls) steadied the innings. The Southern Brave bowlers, led by their spinners, staged a comeback, taking quick wickets and reducing the Invincibles to 102-6. In the end, Tom Curran and Tom Lammonby provided some much-needed runs, pushing the total to 147-9 in 100 balls.

In the chase, the Southern Brave started well and reached 57-0 in 42 balls. However, leg-spinner Adam Zampa broke the opening partnership, triggering a collapse. Saqib Mahmood was the standout bowler, picking up three wickets and decimating Brave's middle order. The Brave could only muster 130 runs in their 100 deliveries, falling short by 17 runs.

Sam Curran, who was exceptional throughout the tournament with both bat and ball, was named the Player of the Tournament, having scored 201 runs and taken 17 wickets. Saqib Mahmood was the Man of the Match in the final for his decisive bowling performance that turned the game in favour of the Invincibles.
