Pakistan might consider withdrawing from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy if its hosting rights are compromised due to India's refusal to play in the country, according to a report by *Dawn*. The publication noted that “official sources” believe Pakistan's government could advise the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to halt participation in ICC or Asian Cricket Council events involving India until the issues between the two nations are resolved.
Another report from PTI stated that the PCB plans to seek clarity from the ICC regarding the hosting of the Champions Trophy. While the ICC confirmed India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan, there has been no mention of a potential hybrid model, where some matches could be held in a neutral location. A PCB source clarified that, at this stage, a hybrid model for the tournament has not been discussed.
Previously, a hybrid format was used during the Asia Cup, where India’s games took place in Sri Lanka while Pakistan hosted the remaining matches.
The PCB intends to formally request clarification from the ICC, with input from its legal team, regarding India’s withdrawal. The PCB is currently assessing the situation and consulting with the government for guidance. The source indicated that PCB is awaiting a government stance on relations with India, which will be referenced in their communication with the ICC. Additionally, the source noted that if the Pakistan government adopts a firm approach, there may be legal ramifications for the ICC in managing cricket relations between the two countries.
