With over 500 Test wickets, the 37-year-old Ravichandran Ashwin has been instrumental in India's long winning streak in the red-ball series at home. Since England's last victory over the sub-continent team in 2012, Ashwin has been the leading wicket-taker.
Prior to his 100th game, the BCCI released a video showcasing Ashwin's journey leading up to the milestone. Anil Kumble, Sunil Gavaskar, and Ravi Shastri congratulated the off-spinner. Shastri, who previously worked with Ashwin during his tenure as India's head coach, had predicted that Ashwin would become the next big thing in Indian cricket.

Shastri said:
“You can’t often make a prediction about spinners but in Ashwin”s case, you knew he would be the next big thing,”
Gavaskar also talked about Ashwin’s journey:
“What is reason behind playing cricket? What is the ambition? The ambition should be to play for India.”
Kumble, the only Indian bowler with more Test wickets than Ashwin, pointed out Ashwin's fluctuations:
‘The challenges are not easy. His journey says a lot about what he has been through. He has handled the ups and downs. It has been a fantastic effort.”
