In their first game of the Indian Premier League 2024, Gujarat Titans surprised Mumbai Indians. However, they were defeated by Chennai Super Kings in their second game. On Sunday, they faced Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
GT missed Mohammed Shami, who has been ruled out of the 17th season due to an injury. Rashid Khan is on the verge of surpassing the veteran pacer in his absence. Rashid and Shami are the highest wicket-takers for the 2022 IPL champions, with 48 wickets each. Rashid requires only one more scalp to become the leading wicket-taker for GT. If Khan takes two wickets in the next game, he will become the first Gujarat bowler to take 50 wickets in the cash-rich league.
Prior to IPL 2022, Khan joined the franchise for INR 15 crore. He took 19 wickets in IPL 202 and followed up with 27 scalps in 2023. He has accumulated two wickets in the ongoing season. Rashid served as GT's vice-captain in the two seasons, with Hardik Pandya leading the side.
Shami was bought by the Titans for INR 6.25 crore. He took 20 wickets in the 2022 season and added 28 more in the 16th season. Mohit Sharma is in third place with 30 wickets.
Rashid Khan began his IPL career with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017 and played for five years. In his first season, he took 17 wickets, followed by 21 wickets in 2018. In the next three seasons, Rashid dismissed 17, 20, and 18 batters.
