Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India for a breach of the code of conduct during his team's IPL 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
DC recorded their first win of the 17th season by defeating the defending champions by 20 runs. For CSK, it was their first loss after two consecutive victories.
Pant was fined INR 12 lakh after his team maintained a slow over rate during their match against the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team. This was the Delhi Capitals’ first offence of the 17th season.
Earlier, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was also penalised for a slow over-rate offence against the Chennai Super Kings at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Pant made an impressive return to the game, scoring a half-century after missing the previous season due to injuries sustained in a car accident. Following a 93-run partnership between Prithvi Shaw and David Warner, Pant kept the scoreboard ticking with his 32-ball 51, helping the Delhi Capitals set a target of 192.
Ajinkya Rahane was the top performer for CSK, scoring 45 runs off 30 balls. MS Dhoni then smashed four boundaries and three sixes in his unbeaten knock of 37 runs off 16 balls.
However, the five-time champions were limited to a score of 171 for six, resulting in a 20-run victory for the home team.
