On Wednesday, March 13, Rishabh Pant, the regular skipper of Delhi Capitals, joined the team's pre-season camp ahead of IPL 2024, which begins on March 22. An eager yet apprehensive Pant expressed his feelings upon rejoining the team after a long hiatus, likening the experience to making his debut once more.
Pant had been sidelined due to a car accident in December 2022 and was cleared by the NCA on March 12, marking the end of 14 months of intensive rehabilitation and recovery.
Reflecting on his journey, Pant emotionally described his return to cricket as nothing short of a miracle and thanked his supporters, the BCCI, and the staff at the National Cricket Academy for helping him through his recovery.
An emotional Pant said:
“To be able to play cricket again after everything I’ve been through is nothing short of a miracle. I’m grateful to all my well-wishers and fans, and most importantly, the BCCI and staff at NCA. All their love and support continue to give me immense strength.”
Pant expressed his excitement at rejoining Delhi Capitals and the IPL, a tournament he enjoys immensely, and thanked the team owners and staff for their unwavering support.
Delhi Capitals will begin their IPL 2024 season in Mohali, playing against the Punjab Kings on March 23.
DC head coach Ricky Ponting provided an update on Pant, stating that he captained, batted, and fielded during practice games at the NCA.
