Rohit has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar to become the Indian opener

Indian captain Rohit Sharma continued his stellar form in ODI cricket with another half-century in the second match against Sri Lanka, surpassing Rahul Dravid to become India's fourth-highest run-scorer in the format. Following a half-century in the first ODI, Rohit was in top form again, scoring 66 off just 44 balls in the second ODI, including five fours and four sixes, at a striking rate exceeding 145. With 10,831 runs in 264 matches, Rohit now boasts an average of 49.23, a strike rate of 92.29, 31 centuries, and 57 fifties, with his highest score being 264.

Additionally, Rohit has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar to become the Indian opener with the most fifty-plus scores in international cricket. Rohit has amassed 43 centuries and 78 fifties as an opener, totalling 121 fifty-plus scores, one more than Tendulkar’s 120.

Rohit also hit his fourth fifty in ODIs within the first 10 overs of a match, moving closer to Virender Sehwag's record of seven such fifties. Since January 2023, Rohit has been a prolific six-hitter, with 54 sixes in the first 10 overs of ODIs, well ahead of David Warner, who has 24. During this period, he has scored 1,377 runs in 28 innings at an average of 52.96, including two centuries and 11 fifties, with his best score being 131.

In the match, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat. Contributions from Avishka Fernando (40 off 62 balls, with five fours), Kamindu Mendis (40 off 44 balls, with four boundaries), and Dunith Wellalage (39 off 35 balls, with four and two sixes) helped Sri Lanka reach 240/9 in their 50 overs.

For India, Washington Sundar (3/30) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/33) were the standout bowlers, with Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel also claiming a wicket each.
