Joe Root's first century during England's ongoing tour of India has elevated him to the No. 3 spot, while Yashasvi Jaiswal's consistent scores have taken him to No. 12 on the ICC's rankings for Test batters.
Root's unbeaten 122 in the fourth Test, his first significant contribution with the bat this series, lifted him two places and into the top three. His exploits as an off-spinner have also moved him up to No. 4 among Test all-rounders.
Jaiswal is now only two spots away from the top ten, and his rise has been meteoric. He began the Test series ranked 69th, but within weeks, his 655 runs in eight innings at an average of 93.57 propelled him 57 places up to 12th. The top of the batters' rankings is still held by New Zealand's Kane Williamson, with Australia's Steven Smith at number two.
In the Test bowling rankings, R Ashwin, ranked world No. 2, has closed the gap between himself and world No. 1 Jasprit Bumrah to only 21 rating points. Ashwin took a five-wicket haul in the second innings of the Ranchi Test to set up India's victory after missing parts of the Rajkot Test for personal reasons. Bumrah was rested. Behind the top two are Kagiso Rabada at third, followed by the Australian duo of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.
