It is expected that Royal Challengers Bangalore will follow the trend set by Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings if their latest teaser is to be believed, and change their name for the 2024 IPL.
RCB will replace Bangalore with Bengaluru in their team name. The change is likely to be made in the hope of reversing their fortunes, although there has been no official confirmation.
RCB, along with Capitals and Punjab, are among the three franchises from the first season to have never lifted the coveted IPL trophy. In 2018, Delhi Daredevils changed their name to Delhi Capitals, and in 2021, Kings XI Punjab became Punjab Kings.
Despite changing their name, the team has yet to win an IPL title. But RCB is hoping to finally lift the trophy. The official announcement is expected to be made on March 19.
RCB has had some success in the league, reaching the final in 2009, 2011, and 2016, but falling short in the title match.
Despite Virat Kohli's sensational batting, they finished sixth last year and failed to make the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. With a new name and fresh approach, the franchise will be hoping to win the league.
