Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson etched his name in the cricketing annals after delivering an explosive performance against Bangladesh in the third T20I of the series. In a thrilling match held in Hyderabad on Saturday, Samson unleashed a remarkable display of power hitting, scoring 111 runs off just 47 balls. India set an enormous total of 297/6 in their allotted 20 overs. The Indian bowlers then effectively contained Bangladesh to 164/7, enabling India to sweep the series 3-0.
Samson's century, which came in only 40 balls, makes him the second-fastest Indian to reach a T20I hundred, following Rohit Sharma's record of 35 balls. Additionally, during his innings, he recorded a landmark achievement by reaching his fifty in just 22 balls, marking the fastest T20I fifty by an Indian batter against Bangladesh. Rohit Sharma previously held the second spot on that list, having achieved his fifty in 23 balls during a T20I in 2019.
Further cementing his legacy, Samson became the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score a T20I century. This milestone not only marks his first century in the format but could also strengthen his position as India's preferred wicketkeeper-batter in T20Is. Across 33 T20I matches and 29 innings, he has now accumulated 594 runs at an average of 22.84, which includes one century and two fifties.
Reflecting on his achievement during the post-match presentation, Samson said, "The energy in the dressing room is incredible, and the boys are genuinely happy for me. It feels great to have their support. Sometimes, it can be frustrating when you know your potential, especially after my recent performances. But with my experience in cricket, I’ve learned to handle pressure and setbacks." He continued, "I’ve had my share of failures, so I remind myself to focus on the process, maintain my training, and believe that success will eventually come. Competing for my country brings its share of pressure, and I wanted to not only perform but also showcase my capabilities."
