Virender Sehwag has publicly criticized a renowned Indian cricketer for his recent remarks on the significance of wickets in T20 cricket. Ravichandran Ashwin has taken just two wickets in eight matches for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2024.
Ashwin has also been somewhat costly in a few games. Sehwag stated that Ashwin is reluctant to take wickets, citing concerns about being hit by less experienced players.
Additionally, Viru has indicated that the champion off-spinner may be unsold in the next auction if his wicket tally remains unchanged in the 17th season:
“He was dropped from Team India after the 2017 Champions Trophy because the wickets were not coming in the middle overs. Ashwin tries to contain the batters and other bowlers are hit for fours and sixes because of him. He has enough experience to escape from the brutal hitting of the batters. Still, the others are not smart and are taken for plenty because the willow holders want to compensate for missing out on scoring opportunities against Ashwin.”
Sehwag was informed about Ashwin’s assertion that the primary focus in T20 cricket should not be on taking wickets.
Manoj Tiwary proposed that R Ashwin should take a break of two or three matches in order to regain his form in the lucrative league.
