Smriti Mandhana is on track for the most World Cup wins for India

The second season of the Women for India's Premier League (WPL) kicks off on 23 February. Ahead of WPL 2, India women's opener Smriti Mandhana, who will lead RCB, expressed her desire to break the record for most World Cup titles won by a player. Notably, Mandhana had a disastrous inaugural season with RCB in the WPL. In 2023, RCB lost their first five matches.

During a rapid-fire round of 18 questions, she was asked, "What is the greatest record you would like to add to your name?" Smriti said, "I think the record of winning the most World Cups for India should be in my name".

Smriti is currently the vice-captain of the Indian women's team, taking over the captaincy in the absence of Harmanpreet Kaur. The RCB team rests on her shoulders.

It is worth noting that India has yet to win a World Cup but has reached the final in 2005 and 2017.

Women's Premier League Season 2 kicks off on 23 February

The full schedule for the 2024 Women's Premier League has been announced. The tournament will open with last year's champions Mumbai Indians taking on last year's finalists Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on 23 February 2023.

A total of 22 matches will be played in the second season. All Women's Premier League matches will kick off at 7:30 pm this year. The final of the WPL will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on 17 March, while the eliminator will be held at the same venue on 15 March.

Two Indian cities, Bengaluru and Delhi, will host all league matches. The top three teams from the league stage will progress to the play-offs for the 2024 WPL season. The top team from the league stage will qualify directly for the final, while the second and third-placed teams will meet in an eliminator on 15 March. The winner of this match will meet the finalist team in Delhi on 17 March.
