Stuart Broad drops the truth bomb on Gujarat's defeat to Punjab: Shubman Gill was not able to score any runs

Gujarat Titans lost a closely contested match against Punjab Kings in their third home game at Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday, April 4. Despite winning their previous two games against Mumbai and Hyderabad, Ahmedabad had not been breached until now. Punjab managed to chase down 200 runs with just 3 wickets and 1 ball remaining. The captain's impressive 89* off 48 balls was overshadowed by Shubman Gill's outstanding performance for GT.

Following the game, ex-England cricketer Stuart Broad commented that Gujarat may have won if Shubman Gill had faced more than 48 balls. Broad believed that Gujarat could have scored more runs if Gill had not been deprived of strike early and late in the innings, which might have resulted in his franchise winning.

The IPL 2022 champions were upset by the defeat, as they were on track to win three consecutive home matches.

On the Star Sports programme, Broad mentioned:

“He struck some fabulous shots, including an excellent straight drive for six off Rabada. It was a textbook stroke. However, I believe the Titans would have won if Shubman Gill had faced 60 balls instead of 48. Despite scoring 89 runs, Gill did not get enough strike in the powerplay or the death overs.”

Broad commended the batter for displaying maturity and stated that this innings would have a significant impact on Shubman, who had been struggling with the bat in the last three matches.

On April 7, GT will travel to Lucknow to play against LSG.
