Sunil Gavaskar has chosen Virat-Maxwell as the most destructive pair in IPL, surpassing Russell-Rinku

During the IPL 2024 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals, Andre Russell and Rinku Singh were smashing the bowlers for boundaries and sixes, making them a destructive pair. When asked if there was anyone else who came close to them, former India player Sunil Gavaskar had to make a tricky decision.

The renowned batter mentioned Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell, who plays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, as potential game-changers with the bat.

When asked by his fellow commentator Padam to choose between the two pairs, he diplomatically that Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell play proper cricket shots while Rinku and Russell rely on unorthodox shots to score their runs.

He declined to name a favourite and instead highlighted the differences between the two pairs.

For the record, Virat and Maxwell have not yet formed a significant partnership due to the latter's struggles in the 17th season. Rinku and Russell have not had many opportunities to face a significant number of balls together in recent matches due to the outstanding performances of the other batters.

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Delhi Capitals by 106 runs, securing their third consecutive win. They are currently at the top of the points table with 6 points and a superior net run-rate to Rajasthan Royals.
