Ex-player rejects sacking Hardik and reinstating Rohit as MI captain

Former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody doesn't think Mumbai Indians will sack Hardik Pandya midway through the season after the franchise's poor run in the 2024 Indian Premier League. The five-time champions are seventh on the points table with three wins and five defeats.

Hardik's return from Gujarat Titans was a major coup, but expectations of the all-rounder have gone downhill. Pandya has become a mere shadow of his illustrious past at the competition. He cannot score runs, take wickets, or lead from the front. The opener began to panic, forcing Rohit to take charge against Punjab Kings.

Hardik took charge against Rajasthan Royals, leading to another defeat. Moody said Mumbai had decided to replace Rohit Sharma, one of the most popular captains in the IPL:

“It is difficult to change. You have made a massive decision. It is not just a change in captaincy. This was a big move because you changed one of the most favourite captains of the IPL certainly of Mumbai Indians. He has got remarkable record in IPL. You have made that decision. I think going back on that decision will be a big move to make.”

Hardik is still hoping for support from the fans as he has been booed at every venue. The trend continued in Jaipur. Mumbai need to win all six of their remaining matches to stand a chance of making the playoffs.
