The BCCI is set to announce his successor soon

Rahul Dravid's decision to continue as India's head coach was influenced by a pivotal phone call from captain Rohit Sharma in November last year, following India's loss in the ODI World Cup final. Initially hesitant to extend his contract after the disappointment, Dravid changed his mind after Rohit's persuasive call, as revealed by Suryakumar Yadav after India's T20 World Cup victory. Dravid expressed his gratitude to Rohit and the team, acknowledging the privilege of working with them and the challenges they've overcome together.

Under the Rohit-Dravid leadership, India has achieved significant success, including winning 18 out of 20 matches across two World Cups and reaching the WTC finals. Rohit Sharma credited Dravid's immense contribution to Indian cricket over the past two decades, stating that winning the T20 World Cup fulfilled a long-awaited achievement in Dravid's illustrious career.

Following the T20 World Cup triumph, Rohit and Virat Kohli celebrated by lifting Dravid in jubilation, highlighting their deep respect and appreciation for his leadership. With Dravid's tenure as head coach coming to an end, the BCCI is set to announce his successor soon, with Gautam Gambhir being a strong contender. The Cricket Advisory Committee has conducted interviews and shortlisted candidates, with the new coach expected to join before the Sri Lanka series, while a new selector will also be appointed shortly.

This marks the conclusion of a successful chapter under Rahul Dravid's coaching, characterised by significant achievements and renewed optimism for Indian cricket.
