Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tristan Stubbs made significant contributions to Delhi Capitals' 10-run victory over Mumbai Indians in a high-scoring Indian Premier League game on Saturday.
Fraser-McGurk scored 84 runs in 27 balls, including 11 fours and six sixes. Stubbs contributed 48 not out in 25 balls later in the innings, as Delhi amassed 257-4 in 20 overs.
Mumbai’s response to the challenge was led by Tilak Varma, who scored 63 runs off 32 balls. However, the team fell short of its objective and finished the chase at 247-9 in 20 overs.
Delhi has now reached the fifth position with a total of 10 points. This places them just outside the top four on net run-rate. Meanwhile, Mumbai, which has now suffered its sixth loss in nine games, is currently placed in ninth position. Fraser-McGurk demonstrated remarkable prowess across the entire park, while Abishek Porel scored an impressive 36 runs off 27 balls.
The power play overs yielded 92 runs as Fraser-McGurk reached 50 runs off only 15 balls. He proceeded to score an additional 34 runs off the next 12 balls faced, before falling short of a century.
Shai Hope scored 41 runs off 17 balls, including five sixes, and contributed to a partnership of 53 runs off 24 balls with captain Rishabh Pant.
Delhi reached 200 runs in 16.1 overs, allowing for a final, decisive phase of play.
At this point, Stubbs assumed a prominent role, achieving six fours and two sixes, including a 30-run hit of the 18th over from Luke Wood.
Pant finished with 29 runs off 19 balls, contributing to Delhi's highest total in this season.
In response, Mumbai lost Rohit Sharma (8) at an early stage. Mr. Ahmed also dismissed Mr. Suryakumar Yadav. The latter was dismissed for 26 runs off 13 balls.
The dismissal of Yadav effectively ended Mumbai's hopes, particularly with Ishan Kishan out for 20.
Varma, however, had alternative strategies in mind, amassing 71 runs off 39 balls with captain Hardik Pandya to reinvigorate the chase.
Pandya scored 46 runs in 24 balls, hitting three sixes, while Mr. Varma smacked four sixes and another four fours.
While Pandya was dismissed and caught in the 13th over, Varma continued to contribute to the team's efforts. Tim David provided a further boost with 37 runs off 17 balls as Mumbai reached 200 in 17.1 overs. Ultimately, the target proved to be unattainable.
