The poor form of Delhi Capitals' star batter has come under scrutiny in IPL 2024

Indian cricket has witnessed the emergence of several talented young players, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, and Sarfaraz Khan. Their impressive performances contributed to India's 4-1 victory over England in the recent Test series. However, Prithvi Shaw, once considered a rising star, is currently facing adversity and has been overlooked for the national team.

Following a lengthy injury setback, Shaw made his return to the Ranji Trophy. Aside from scoring 159 against Chhattisgarh, he failed to reach a century in the other five matches he played. Despite his upcoming appearance for the Delhi Capitals in the 2024 IPL, former Australian spinner Brad Hogg believes that Shaw is still far from regaining his best form.

Hogg stated that improving Shaw's performance would benefit the DC:

“Ponting will focus intensely on strategizing with Shaw in the powerplay. If Shaw can overcome his struggles and provide support to Warner, the middle order will be well-positioned to fire the opposing teams.”

Prithvi Shaw has been a key opener in the Delhi Capitals batting order since his breakthrough in 2018. In 2021, Shaw scored 479 runs in 15 matches, securing his spot in the team. For the past two seasons, Shaw has been Delhi's opening pair alongside veteran Australian opener David Warner.

He was dropped from DC's starting XI and the Indian team in IPL 2023 due to his underwhelming performance, scoring just 106 runs in eight matches at an average of 13.25.
