The three-match T20I series starts on Friday, August 23

South Africa has named an exciting squad for their upcoming T20I series against the West Indies, including the call-ups of 18-year-old fast bowler Kwena Maphaka and all-rounder Jason Smith. Maphaka earned his maiden call-up after an impressive showing in the U19 World Cup earlier this year, where he finished as the leading wicket-taker with 21 wickets from six matches, including three five-wicket hauls. The young pacer also made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Mumbai Indians (MI), marking a quick rise in his career.

Jason Smith, a seasoned performer in South African domestic cricket, also joins the squad. Known for his versatility as a batting all-rounder, Smith’s recent performances have caught the attention of the selectors. Rob Walter, South Africa’s white-ball coach, expressed his excitement about the duo’s inclusion, highlighting their potential to contribute significantly to the team.

Several key players, including David Miller, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Keshav Maharaj, have been rested for this series due to injuries, workload management, and commitments in other T20 leagues.

The three-match T20I series will kick off on Friday, August 23, at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.

South Africa squad:

- Aiden Markram (C)

- Ottneil Baartman

- Nandre Burger

- Donovan Ferreira

- Bjorn Fortuin

- Reeza Hendricks

- Patrick Kruger

- Kwena Maphaka

- Wiaan Mulder

- Lungi Ngidi

- Ryan Rickelton

- Jason Smith

- Tristan Stubbs

- Rassie van der Dussen

- Lizaad Williams

The series provides a platform for young talents like Maphaka to showcase their skills on the international stage, as the Proteas continue building towards a stronger future in T20 cricket.
