Top 5 spells in RR vs GT matches in the history of the IPL ft. Hardik Pandya

Rajasthan Royals (RR) take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 24th Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match on Wednesday, 10 April at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

The home side have been in fine form this season, winning all four of their matches. The Sanju Samson-led side defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their last outing. Chasing a target of 184, Jos Buttler finally came to the party, scoring a brilliant century to lead RR to their fourth successive win.

On the other hand, last year's runners-up Gujarat has been below par so far this season. In five matches played under new captain Shubman Gill, GT has won two and lost three to sit seventh in the table. Gujarat have lost their last two matches and will be looking to bounce back when they take on RR on Wednesday.

RR and GT have met five times in the last few years, with Gujarat emerging victorious on four occasions. Rajasthan has only managed to beat GT once. Gujarat also beat the Royals in the 2022 IPL final.

In all five matches, fans have been treated to some great cricket between the two sides. With that in mind, in this article we will look at the top five spells in RR-GT IPL matches.

Trent Boult's decisive spell in the final of the IPL 2022 (1-14 in four overs)

Gujarat took on the Royals in the IPL 2022 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Rajasthan won the toss and elected to bat first, but things didn't go their way as they were restricted to 130 runs from their 20 overs, thanks to some superb bowling from then GT captain Hardik Pandya (3-17).

GT responded by winning the match with 11 balls to spare, but Trent Boult showed his class in the final. In a high-octane, high-pressure match, the New Zealand pacer conceded just 14 runs in his four-over spell and also took the vital wicket of Matthew Wade.

Mohammed Shami fires at Narendra Modi Stadium (3-25 in four overs)

In the 23rd match of IPL 2023, RR faced Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Rajasthan won the toss and asked GT to bat first, who posted 177 runs in their 20 overs.

In reply, GT's Mohammed Shami bowled an incredible spell, giving his side an early breakthrough when he claimed the wicket of Jos Buttler. Later in the innings, Shami continued to pick up wickets to keep the game tight.

However, RR managed to pull through thanks to half-centuries from Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer. Although RR won the match, Shami showed his mettle, taking three wickets and conceding only 25 runs in four overs.

Lockie Ferguson's sensational spell (3-23 from four overs)

RR took on GT in Match 24 of the IPL 2022 at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Asked to bat first, skipper Hardik Pandya led the Titans to a commendable total of 192 runs. Pandya remained unbeaten on 87 in an innings that featured eight fours and four sixes.

Jos Buttler responded with a quickfire fifty for the Royals, but his innings was cut short by Lockie Ferguson. The New Zealand pacer bowled a match-winning spell, taking three wickets and conceding just 23 runs to guide GT to a 37-run victory over RR.

Rashid Khan shines in Jaipur (3-14 from four overs)

Rajasthan won the toss and elected to bat first in Match 48 of the IPL 2023 at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. Batting first, the Royals were never in a comfortable position with the loss of early wickets. In the middle overs, Rashid Khan ensured they were bowled out for a low score.

Rashid took three wickets for just 14 runs in his four-over spell, with other bowlers also contributing. RR were bowled out for 118. In reply, GT had no problems and chased down the target with ease to win the match by nine wickets.

Captain Hardik Pandya led GT to their maiden title with 3-17 from four overs

Gujarat won their first title in their debut season in the 2022 IPL. In the final, the Titans faced one of the best teams of the season in Rajasthan Royals. Sanju Samson's side won the toss and elected to bat first, but it was all about GT captain Hardik Pandya.

The Indian all-rounder took three key wickets (Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer) to keep the match in GT's hands as Royals were bowled out for 130 runs. Hardik also scored 34 runs and picked up the Player of the Match award for his brilliant all-round performance in the final.
