Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer emphasised the crucial factor that could lead India to a historic third consecutive Test series win in Australia. Speaking on Sunday, Jaffer pointed out that the fitness and availability of India's formidable pace trio—Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj—will be vital to India's chances in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The highly anticipated series will kick off with the first Test at Perth Stadium from November 22 to 26. India, having won the last two series in Australia (2018-19 and 2020-21), is looking to continue their dominance Down Under.
In response to a fan's question about India's prospects in this year's Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Jaffer stressed the importance of the pace trio's fitness throughout the series. He also mentioned the potential impact of left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, and the exciting IPL sensation Mayank Yadav, who could be a "dark horse" if he stays fit for the series.
"If Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj stay fit and are able to play most of the series, India has a great opportunity for a hat-trick Down Under. Arshdeep could bring the left-arm option. And Mayank Yadav could be a dark horse, provided he's fit and available," Jaffer tweeted, using the hashtag #AUSvIND.
The series will continue with the second Test at Adelaide Oval from December 6 to 10, featuring a thrilling day-night format. The third Test will be held at The Gabba in Brisbane from December 14 to 18.
The iconic Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground from December 26 to 30 will be a highlight, leading to the final and fifth Test at Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 to 7, 2025. The series promises to be a dramatic and exciting contest, with India aiming to make history.
