India's rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal has been named the ICC Player of the Month for February 2024. Jaiswal was the leading run-getter in the recently concluded series against England.
This recognition comes after his outstanding performance in the five-match Test series against England on home soil. He scored a staggering 712 runs. Notably, Jaiswal became only the second Indian batsman after Sunil Gavaskar to cross the 700-run mark in a bilateral Test series. He also broke Virat Kohli's record for most runs in a series against England.
Jaiswal beat off stiff competition from experienced campaigners such as New Zealand's Kane Williamson and Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka. Two remarkable double centuries in successive Test matches in February highlighted his exceptional form in the current ICC World Test Championship cycle.
Jaiswal singled out his unbeaten innings of 214* in Rajkot as his most memorable performance, emphasising the joy and fulfilment he felt during that momentous knock.
In February, Jaiswal played a pivotal role in India's comeback from 1-0 down to win the series against England. He amassed a total of 560 runs in three Tests at an astonishing average of 112. His standout performances included a brilliant double century in Visakhapatnam and an even more spectacular 214* in Rajkot. He also broke the record for most sixes in a Test innings.
Additionally, Jaiswal’s consistent contributions propelled him into the top ten of the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, marking a significant ascent from his initial ranking of 69th at the beginning of the series.
Jaiswal’s achievement also holds historical significance as he became the first Men’s Player of the Month winner from India since Shubman Gill in September 2023.
